This is a unit plan was designed in collaboration by myself and colleagues from Loyola Marymount University as part of the credentialing program. There are 10 lessons in total to span two weeks, in which 2 lessons are detailed lesson plans based on the Universal Design for Learning. The content area was integrated English Language Arts and Social Studies for 3rd grade students. The standard addressed was American symbols, landmarks, and documents. While creating this lesson, we kept in mind our population of students with disabilities so it was designed with appropriate scaffolding and it is accessible for all culturally and linguistically diverse learners.

This English Language Arts lesson focused on the Common Core State Standards of foundational skills for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade. The students were working on applying grade-level phonics and word analysis skills, reading with sufficient accuracy and fluency to support comprehension, and using context to confirm or self-correct word recognition. The lesson was taught by myself and was observed by my administrators as part of my formal evaluation for LAUSD. The lesson follows the I Do, We Do, You Do model and utilizes whole group and small group instruction.
