COMPREHENSIVE CLASSROOM BEHAVIOR MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
The image above depicts my students as the characters from Class Dojo and the number of points they earned exhibiting the appropriate and positive behavior is displayed. The collective number of points is added together under "Whole Class" and the entire class would receive a reward such as ten minutes extra recess or Fun Friday if they achieved a certain number of points by the end of the week. The images below detail the behaviors that are rewarded.
Students were rewarded for positive behavior with a points system which translated into a token economy. The more points the student accumulated, the more money they would be able to put it in their bank account. The focus was always on positive reinforcement and any problem behaviors were either addressed or ignored depending on the situation. Students simply received no tokens for exhibiting problem behaviors. I would have this displayed on the projector when it was time for the students to show me that they were ready for the next activity. I also had the app on my iPad which I kept with me during small group instruction so that students knew I was keeping track. I used the callback chant "1, 2, 3 - eyes on me" and students responded with "1, 2 - eyes on you." Those who were on task were immediately praised and rewarded.
Class Dojo is a classroom communication app which allows teachers and parents to connect. Teachers can post stories for all parents to see or to the individual student's page. Parents and teachers and track student behavior, upload photos or videos, and instant message in real time. The app has a toolkit with features such as point system, creating groups, random selection, and a timer. Class Dojo is an excellent visual representation for the children to monitor their own behavior and keep track of the timer for work completion. They were able to see their points and exchange them for tokens or dollars depending on how much they made.
