My Background
My name is Victor Adrian Frias. I was born and raised in East Los Angeles, California and attended public school for my K-12 experience. I am a first generation college graduate, having been the first in my family to attend a university and complete my degree.

My Parents
I attended University of California, Santa Barbara for my undergraduate degree. I majored in Political Science (American Government Concentration) with one minor in English and a second minor in Education (Teacher Preparation) and graduated in 2014. During my time at UCSB, I entered multiple classroom settings such as elementary school, middle school, high school, and adult school. My passion for teaching students of all ages began as a result of these experiences. I worked within the community at Santa Barbara High School where I served as a resource for underrepresented students by providing tutoring in multiple subjects and mentoring in the college decision process.
After graduating from UCSB, I moved back home to East Los Angeles, CA where I spent almost a year in physical therapy recovering from major knee surgery. Despite my limited mobility, I served the students of Roosevelt High School in Boyle Heights as part of the non-profit College Track where I continued to be a mentor and tutor for the 2014-2015 school year. Once I made a fully recovery, I decided to spend the 2015-2016 school year teaching abroad in American Samoa in which I taught 2nd Grade. Upon my return to the US, I spent the 2016-2017 school year working as a Program Leader for Alliance Judy Burton Tech in South Los Angeles. At this time, I was accepted into Teach For America - Los Angeles and dedicated my time to studying for the CBEST and CSET.
Wheelchair Bound for 3 months
As of the 2017-2018 school year, I work with the Los Angeles Unified School District as a Special Education Teacher in a Special Day Class - Specific Learning Disability with grades 2, 3, and 4. My students have various eligibilities that impact their learning such as Specific Learning Disability, Other Health Impairment, Autism, and Orthopedic Impairment. I am currently attending Loyola Marymount University where I am completing my Education Specialist Preliminary Credential to teach K-12 students with mild/moderate disabilities. In Fall 2018, I will start classes to complete my Masters Urban Education with an emphasis on Policy and Administration. I am passionate about making a change in underrepresented, low-income communities where I can provide the resources available to those in most need. My interests are include civil rights, social justice movement, mentoring, and education politics. I am a member of the United Teachers for Los Angeles in which I actively educate myself on the policies and legislation currently impacting our students and teachers. My ultimate goal is to obtain my Pupil and Personnel Services credential to serve my students' needs outside of the classroom and focus on mental health with the hopes of achieving an equitable learning environment for all students.
